Monash University < 1 min read

A Monash University expert is available to discuss road safety around large vehicles and blind spots that can contribute to truck accidents, after a devastating truck incident at a busy intersection in Sydney, NSW.

  • Blind spots around trucks
  • Road safety measures with heavy vehicles
  • Technology advances that reduce risks of truck accidents/incidents
  • Ripple effect of first responders and witnesses impacted by such events

The following can be attributed to Mr Carslake:

"People need to be aware of the significant blind spots that exist around trucks and large vehicles. The truck design and where the driver is positioned, such as further back, can impede their vision when on the road.

“Pedestrians and car drivers often pull out or walk in front of trucks thinking they have full vision or the truck can simply stop, which is where accidents can happen.

“While there are safety technologies available to reduce risks on the road, it is essential for drivers to be aware of the road safety measures they can take to reduce the risks of truck incidents, which is to give trucks the space they need to operate."
