Statement from Wesley Mission and the Alliance for Gambling Reform on the Outabox data breach in NSW clubs

Wesley Mission and the Alliance for Gambling Reform have consistently argued that facial recognition technology in pubs and clubs is potentially illegal, poses data risks, does not minimise gambling harm and is ultimately unnecessary. It will only add to the risk of further breaches of people’s privacy.

A universal mandatory cashless payment system with loss limits, managed independently of the gambling industry, would give people control over their own gambling without the intervention of any venue management. The data would be stored and protected separately from any other information clubs or pubs collect about their customers.

Our Hearts Break for Bondi: A Call to Prayer, Peace and Unity Futures Church

A statement from Futures Church – Ashley Evans, Senior Global Pastor. What happened at Bondi Beach was evil. There’s no other word for it. Families gathered to celebrate Hanukkah. At one of Australia’s most iconic places. They were attacked simply for being Jewish. This is not who we are. Let me be direct. Antisemitism is evil. It has no place in Australia. No place in any community. No place in the human heart. Any hatred or violence toward the Jewish people—or any people—is an assault on the image of God in every person. Futures Church stands with the Jewish community.…
