Vasey RSL Care Welcomes Federal Opposition Treasurer Angus Taylor's Visit to The V Centre
Vasey RSL Care, a leading ex-service accommodation provider in Australia, was pleased to host the Federal Opposition Treasurer Angus Taylor to The V Centre Veteran Empowerment Program last week.
The V Centre Veteran Empowerment Program provides crucial support to veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The groundbreaking program offers a safe living environment alongside comprehensive wraparound support services. It stands as the first of its kind in Australia and is not only changing lives but also has the potential to save them.
During his visit, Mr Taylor had the opportunity to witness firsthand the positive impact The V Centre is making in the lives of veterans. Already, the centre is demonstrating its potential to transform the trajectories of those it serves, offering hope and stability where it is needed most.
“Addressing veteran homelessness is a significant issue and needs a collaborative approach”, Deb Fraser, The V Centre Program Manager said. “Veterans in Australia are three times more likely to experience homelessness than the general public, and they face alarmingly high rates of suicide. It is imperative that we rally together to support these veterans”, Ms Fraser continued.
Vasey RSL Care has submitted a bid for $10.75 million in the upcoming federal budget to cover operational costs for The V Centre over its initial three years of operation. This funding is vital to ensure the sustainability of the centre and its ability to continue providing essential services to veterans in need.
"We are optimistic that Australia's decision-makers will recognise the critical importance of our innovative centre and support our submission," said Janna Voloshin, Vasey RSL Care Chief Executive Officer. "The V Centre represents a significant step forward in addressing the pressing issue of veteran homelessness and ensuring that those who have served our country receive the support they deserve." Ms Voloshin continued.
Vasey RSL Care urged Mr Taylor to lobby his federal counterparts to ensure that The V Centre gets the support it needs to continue to change lives.
Far away from his electorate of Hume in New South Wales, Mr Taylor's visit highlights his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at assisting veterans in need. As one of the founding members of the ‘Pollie Pedal’, an annual fundraising event now in its 26th year, Mr Taylor has demonstrated a commitment to raising funds and awareness for organisations that support vulnerable members of the community.
Previous beneficiaries of the Pollie Pedal include Soldier On and Wandering Warriors, both of which provide vital assistance to veterans in need. The Pollie Pedal 2024, scheduled to take place later this year, will continue to support worthy causes, including those aimed at assisting our nation's veterans.
