Positive signs in new home construction but still a long way to go

22 January 2025 In the first three months of the National Housing Accord, Australia commenced construction on 43,247 new homes according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. This is 4.6 per cent higher than the June 2024 quarter and 13.9 per cent higher than the same quarter in 2023. Civil contracting company Rahme Civil Pty Ltd (Rahme Civil) has been fined $33,750 by Parramatta Local Court for failing to comply with an EPA clean-up notice and EPA notices for information and records after soil contaminated with asbestos was dumped at a rural property in Fernances Crossing, in the Cessnock area. The waste was delivered to the private property in 2023 after the landowners advertised for fill material, which can be used as a base material for building or landscaping.
