Major Residential Air-Conditioning Rebate Now Available in Victoria

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Melbourne, VIC – [Tuesday, 17 September 2024] - Victoria is taking giant steps toward cleaner, more energy-efficient home heating and cooling systems with significant rebates on the installation of energy-efficient air conditioning units. The initiative is part of the Victorian State Government’s broad commitment to transition the state towards a net-zero carbon emissions target by 2050.

In particular, the State Government is encouraging Victorian households to replace old, inefficient gas-powered heating systems with modern, energy-efficient electric alternatives.

Efficient Energy Group – Victorian Energy Upgrades Partner

Efficient Energy Group (EEG) is a leading installer of advanced energy-efficient systems, and is committed to helping Victorians make the switch to more environmentally friendly and cost-effective heating and cooling solutions.

CEO Joshua Liptak says the current Victorian Residential Air-Conditioning Rebate represents a not-to-be missed opportunity for Victorian homeowners to upgrade their existing gas heating systems. He especially recommends those with non-ducted (room) gas heaters, ducted (whole-of-home) gas heaters, and hard-wired slab heaters grab this opportunity to replace these systems with efficient multi-head split system air conditioning units.

Driving Change Through Rebates and Electrification

The Victorian Government’s Energy Upgrades (VEU) program offers generous incentives to eligible homeowners to replace existing gas heaters with cleaner, greener, more efficient electric alternatives. Notably, the scheme provides rebates on the installation of modern energy-efficient solutions such as split system air conditioners. The rebate is part of Victoria’s goal to phase out gas use in homes and achieve net-zero carbon emissions targets.

Liptak strongly encourages Victorian households to get behind the scheme and benefit from the substantial cost savings on offer. He says households with outdated gas heaters or hard-wired slab heaters stand to benefit significantly by upgrading to efficient multi-head split system air conditioning units through the program.

As he explained, “These systems provide sustainable year-round heating and cooling, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and lower energy bills. What’s not to love about all those benefits”!

Significant VEU Rebates for Gas Heater Upgrades

Liptak further revealed that key rebates available through the VEU include upgrades for the following types of gas heating systems:

  • Non-ducted (Room) Gas Heaters: These often-inefficient heaters are still common in Victorian homes. But, as Liptak explains, they result in uneven heating, higher gas bills, and also higher carbon emissions. He suggests replacing them with modern split systems that offer better energy efficiency and even heating.

  • Ducted (Whole-of-Home) Gas Heaters: These types of gas heaters are also common throughout Victoria. But – they are not the most energy-efficient option. So Liptak recommends upgrading to something like a multi-head electric split system, which is more efficient, uses less energy, has less environmental impact, AND provides cooling in summer.

  • Hard-Wired Slab Heaters: Underfloor heating, like a hard-wired slab heater, is comforting in cold Victorian winters but these heaters are among the least-energy efficient gas heating systems. Again, Liptak’s advice to homeowners is to use the opportunity offered by the Victorian Residential Air-Conditioning Rebate to replace them with a more efficient multi-head electric split system. This will significantly cutting running costs, and improve the home’s overall sustainability.

Why Multi-Head Split System Air Conditioning is a Good Choice

Multi-head split systems offer flexibility, efficiency, and environmental benefits.

  • Flexibility and lower installation costs – multi-head systems connect multiple indoor units to a single outdoor unit, and can be programmed to provide zoned heating and cooling. The single outdoor unit does away with the need for (and installation costs of) multiple outdoor units.

  • Energy efficient – even though they use electricity, these systems are designed to be more energy efficient even than previous ‘energy-efficient’ alternatives, like gas. If the home also has solar power, that’s even lower running costs!

  • Year-round comfort – being split system units, they provide both heating and cooling in ONE convenient package. This does away with the need for, and expense of, a separate air-conditioning unit.

  • Reduced environmental impact – as Australia transitions away from fossil fuel powered electricity generation, replacing gas appliances with modern electric ones makes a lot of sense. It not only saves money, but also reduces our carbon footprint and reliance on fossil fuels.

  • Cost savings – the Victorian Residential Air-Conditioning Rebate program covers a large part of the installation costs of these units so homeowners will save money right from the start.

Liptak believes all these features make multi-head split system air conditioning an ideal choice of air-conditioning upgrade. His company, Efficient Energy Group, specialises in helping Victorian homeowners upgrade and take full advantage of the VEU rebates available.

How to Apply for the VEU Rebate

Homeowners should apply via the Service Victoria website or through a registered installer like Efficient Energy Group. Liptak and his team are available to assist with this process, from eligibility checks to installation and rebate submission.

Why Not Take the Next Step Towards Energy Efficiency Today

“For Victorian households, there has never been a better time to make the switch to energy-efficient heating and cooling solutions”, Liptak says. “The Victorian Residential Air-Conditioning Rebate will pay for most of the installations costs for eligible households, making this a very smart investment for your wallet and the environment. But you need to take action… get the ball rolling, and the sooner you do this, the sooner you’ll start enjoying the benefits of your new system.”

Analysis: NSW local council elections show strong support for wind and solar energy

Local election results in NSW’s renewable energy zones indicate a large majority of voters either support or don’t have a strong view on local large scale wind and solar energy developments. Solutions for Climate Australia has analysed local council election results in towns across the state where debates about local renewable energy developments have been hot topics, and found few locals were motivated to vote for candidates who oppose solar and wind developments. In Wollongong for example, some thought the absence of Liberal candidates would artificially inflate support for candidates whose platforms included opposing the planned offshore wind development. However…
