Not one, but two rare and special edition pink race helmets worn by motorsport legends David Reynolds and Mark Winterbottom will be going under the hammer after the GC500 race weekend with all proceeds going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
The auction follows last year’s success, where Reynolds’ pink helmet raised an impressive $15,500 for NBCF after securing victory in the Gold Coast round. This year, the drivers-only initiative hopes to surpass that amount, with both Reynolds and Winterbottom’s 1 of 1 designed supercars helmets go under the hammer.
“It’s always a privilege to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and racing with a pink helmet is something I’m proud to do. The fact that last year’s helmet raised over $15,500 for NBCF was incredible, and I’m hoping this year’s auction will generate even more. It’s a great cause, and I can’t wait to see the results,” said Mr. David Reynolds, reigning Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 champion.
“Wearing a pink helmet for the Gold Coast 500 is very close to my heart. My mum passed away from breast cancer, so I know firsthand how devastating this disease can be. That’s why supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation means so much to me, and I’ll be proud to wear this helmet as a tribute to her and everyone else who’s been affected,” said Mr. Mark Winterbottom, Team18 driver.
The 1 of 1 helmets have been uniquely designed and painted by renowned helmet artist Trent Rogers of 6Star Custom Paint, serving the drivers as not just a safety device, but also a statement piece.
“We are honoured to support such a worthy cause in auctioning David Reynolds and Mark Winterbottom’s race helmets, and raising funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, these are special items to come to auction,” said Mr. Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer for Lloyds Auctions.
“These helmets are very rare pieces of motorsport memorabilia and are already attracting a lot of attention from Supercars fans around the country, you don’t get an opportunity to own pieces of memorabilia such as these very often,” continued Mr. Hames.
The auction will conclude on Monday 28th October at 5pm AEST with all proceeds going directly to breast cancer research as an initiative by JAX Tyres & Auto.
