Media Opportunity: Press conference with National President at 1:30 pm on Saturday 11/05/2024 from Nasir Mosque (Bibra lake), live/recorded interview with local youth leaders and members.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Perth, [11/05/2024] – The National Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) President, Mr. Adnan Qadir, has arrived in Perth from Sydney:
1. To lead youth conference engaging with members and addressing their concerns in our increasingly polarised society, especially post-Perth knife attack.
2. To hold meetings with local Muslim youth leaders to accelerate outreach activities to counter the backlash the Muslim community is facing.
Mr Qadir leads various Australia-wide initiatives that AMYA is known for. Mr Qadir recently launched a nationwide blood donation campaign in the memory of Brother Faraz Tahir, the "National Hero" and member of AMYA, who lost his life saving others in Bondi attack. Mr Qadir leads the biggest group on Australia clean-up day with participants spread across 26 sites Australia-wide. His youth association holds the record for the highest community-based fund-raising for Red Cross Australian-wide - just under 100,000$ in one year. Under his leadership, the youth takes part in 'Tree Plantation in all major cities across Australia every single year amongst many other community and social welfare programs such as regular distribution of free hot meals for the homeless, charity walks etc.
Mr Qadir when asked about his purpose of the trip noted "I will be engaging with local Ahmadiyya Muslim youth to discuss ways to combat negativity through dialogue, love, and community engagement. This conference will provide a platform for youth to voice their concerns and share their experiences in facing discrimination and prejudice and, how we can best respond to it."
Speaking about the upcoming youth conference and outreach efforts, Mr. Qadir stated, "Meanwhile, we can train our youth to lead the movement of reforming not only other Muslim communities but also the wider public in their perception of Muslims and Islam. By engaging in open dialogue and education, we can combat misinformation and build a society that embraces diversity and inclusivity."
One of the initiatives Mr Qadir will launch during this visit is a proposal to be sent to all high schools, advocating for Q&A sessions with visiting imams or excursion trips to Perth's largest Nasir Mosque. These sessions will allow students to clear up any misconceptions about Islam, particularly those propagated through the internet and media. He believes that education will not only immune the next generation to any radical ideas but also create an atmosphere of love and harmony.
