The solicitors of the NSW express their sorrow at the passing of the Hon Thomas Eyre Forrest Hughes AO KC, one of the most formidable, talented and courteous lawyers to grace our system of justice.
The Law Society of NSW joins with the Chief Justice of NSW Andrew Bell, and the NSW Bar Association in paying tribute to an advocate whose extraordinary abilities and acumen led him to become Australia’s first law officer, serving as Attorney General from 1969 – 1971.
Tom Hughes served his nation, in times of war and peace, with distinction, he served his clients with determination and his opponents with the utmost respect.
The Law Society offers its sincerest condolences to Tom Hughes’ family and friends. He will be remembered always as a giant of the Australian law.
