COMPANY FINED $60,000 FOR BREACHES OF TYRE STORAGE GUIDELINES
The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has issued two penalty notices totalling $60,000 and an official caution to a Western Sydney company for allegedly storing rubber waste tyres improperly and creating a serious fire hazard. During an inspection of the Clean Earth Tyre Recycling premises in June, EPA officers discovered the company was stockpiling waste tyres above its licence limits and storing them in a way that heightened the risk of fire. MUSWELLBROOK SHIRE COUNCIL FINED $8,000 FOR LEAK AT WATER TREATMENT PLANT
Muswellbrook Shire Council has been fined $8,000 and issued with an official caution after a leak of ferric sulphate at its Muswellbrook Water Treatment Plant earlier this year in March. Between 2500 and 3000 litres of the corrosive liquid, which is used as a coagulant, leaked from a hole in the ferric sulphate storage tank and spilled into a contained (bunded) area.
