Rapid Relief Team packing up festive food for Aussie families in need

Rapid Relief Team < 1 min read

The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) has helped provide families across Australia with more than 1,100 Holiday Food Boxes, or the equivalent of more than 28,000 meals this month.

For the past few weeks, RRT’s dedicated volunteers have packed the boxes with enough food to provide a family of four with three meals for two days, including non-perishable staples, Christmas stockings, puddings, and shortbread.

The Holiday Food Boxes are then given to charitable organisations that support people experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, and financial hardship.

RRT’s Australian Operations Manager, Mick Dunn said this effort has been made possible by donations from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, and hours of commitment from RRT volunteers.

“This time of year is all about connecting with loved ones – but it is also about giving back to the community when and where you can,” said Mick.

“Delivering these Holiday Food Boxes to charitable organisations is just one way RRT puts compassion into action – and we wanted to be able to help as many families share a special meal without worrying about the cost.

“RRT has been working with some amazing charities to get the Holiday Food Boxes to families in need, because this time of year can be really tough for so many Aussies.”

RRT has expanded to more than 14,500 volunteers since it was established as the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church in 2013 with the aim of assisting emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support.
