GPs to provide free flu vaccines in Queensland for 2025

Royal Australian College of GPs 2 mins read

The Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) has welcomed the Crisafulli Government’s announcement of free influenza vaccines for all Queenslanders in 2025.

RACGP Queensland Chair Dr Cathryn Hester applauded the move to continue 2024’s free vaccination program, which ensures all Queenslanders will again be able to protect themselves against the flu.

“Supporting access to vaccinations is a smart move – it helps keep Queenslanders healthy and relieve pressure on our hospitals, while saving patients money,” Dr Hester said.

“GPs are the most trusted and accessed provider of immunisations, and we are ready and willing to help Queenslanders reduce the risk of becoming unwell with preventable illnesses like influenza.

“Flu vaccinations will be available from your local GP when they become available later this year, generally around late March to early April.

“This a great opportunity to catch up with your GP who knows you and your history, and to stay well in 2025.”

GPs delivered around 61% of Queensland’s flu vaccinations in 2024, and 59% nationally.

Last year, there were 79,197 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza in Queensland, up from 74,343 the year before.

Dr Hester emphasised the importance of flu vaccination to prevent illness and hospitalisations.

“Influenza is serious,” she said.

“Queenslanders end up in hospital due to influenza every year, and the risks are higher for young children, seniors, and patients who are pregnant or have asthma, lung disease, diabetes, heart disease, or other heath disorders.

“Vaccines are our best protection against the flu, and the most effective way to prevent deaths and serious illness.”

16 civil society organisations from 12 Asian and Pacific nations petition Minister Farrell to halt export of mercury fillings

MELBOURNE, VIC –Disgusted with Australia being the genesis of dangerous mercury product to their nations, 16 civil society organisations from 12 Asian and Pacific nations submitted a petition on 7 January calling for Federal Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell to ban the export of dental amalgam. The petition is targeted at Southern Dental Industries, the world’s last publicly traded dental products manufacturer making dental amalgam, and whose CEO recently promised shareholders she will “maximise” amalgam sales. Civil society organisations have united to challenge CEO Samantha Cheetham’s focus on “lower socio-economic markets” to sell her mercury product. Their 12 nations…
