Brewers welcome Government’s announcement of a freeze on draught beer excise

Brewers Association of Australia < 1 mins read

Chief Executive Officer of the Brewers Association of Australia said:

Australia’s brewers and beer drinkers welcome the Government’s announcement to freeze the indexation on draught beer for 2 years.

“Importantly, the measure takes effect from August this year, helping Australia’s brewing and hospitality sectors at a time when it’s acutely needed.

“After more than 40 years of twice-yearly beer tax increases, which has given Australians the third highest taxed beer in the world, we welcome the Prime Minister’s decision to step in. Whilst this is a moderate change it will certainly make a difference for brewers and everyone who enjoys visiting their local for a beer.

“We hope now that the Coalition step up and also make a commitment to support small hospitality businesses and their customers with lower taxes

Rewiring Australia CEO Francis Vierboom has welcomed the expansion while highlighting the need to ensure more households are able to participate as rebates reduce over coming years. “This announcement reflects the growing role household batteries play in an…

Homelessness crisis leaving children behind, new data shows

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare’s (AIHW) report shows children make up 27 per cent of those unable to access support, with many fleeing family violence and left with nowhere safe to turn. Of the nearly 289,000 Australians who sought help from specialist homelessness services in 2024-2025, 19,000 went unassisted…
