Labor is ensuring people with disability receive equitable access to training. Construction has started on The Gordon’s TAFE Centre of Excellence in Disability Inclusion in Geelong. Minister Tierney visited The Gordon’s Geelong City campus to officially mark the beginning of building works. The $36 million centre is expected to be complete next year. The Centre will be built in Geelong, home of WorkSafe, TAC and the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Funding boost for veterans’ compensation assessments a win for access: RACGP
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has said updated fee schedules will make medical assessments related to compensation claims more accessible and fairer for veterans. The changes, announced by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), will boost funding for veterans accessing compensation assessments from a GP by more than 30%, bringing DVA rates into line with comparable compensation schemes and ensuring they will be indexed annually from 1 July 2026. Australians are coupling up with people of similar socio-economic status, perpetuating inequality and fuelling house price growth in cities, according to new research by the e61 Institute. The analysis of 2021 Census data finds that in 38% of working age couples, both partners have a university degree, far higher than would occur under random matching.
