EPBC reforms must be significantly improved to deliver for nature
CANBERRA, 30 OCTOBER 2025 — Greenpeace has warned that the revamped laws will fall far short if critical gaps in addressing deforestation, climate impacts and excessive Ministerial discretion are not fixed. TALENT ALERT: Federal Governments Environment Law Reforms Ignore Climate Reality, Experts Warn
Thursday, 30 October 2025 The federal government's once-in-a-generation overhaul of our national environment law risks entrenching climate destruction, with leading legal and climate experts warning the reforms fail to deal with the single biggest threat to our environment – climate change. The Government’s draft Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act reforms will reportedly exclude any meaningful consideration of climate pollution or compatibility with Australia’s climate targets. Despite promises of stronger protections, the reforms will not consider the climate impacts of new or expanded coal and gas projects. Polluting projects would not be blocked on climate grounds, even if they…

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF), in partnership with The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change, has launched a national policy report calling on the Australian Government to place health at the centre of climate change policy, now and into the future. Building on the findings of the 2025 Global Report[1] of the Lancet Countdown, the report recommends three key priority actions the Government must commit to in order to ensure a climate-resilient future and safeguard the health of all Australians: Adapt a National Clean Air Framework for Health: Currently, Australia lacks federal clean air legislation; existing measures…
