Gupta’s Excuses Insult Workers’ Intelligence

The Mining and Energy Union has slammed Sanjeev Gupta’s latest attempt to justify months of unpaid bills at Tahmoor Colliery as “a slap in the face to every worker at Tahmoor and every family that’s carried the cost of his chaos.” MEU South Western District President Bob Timbs said Gupta’s reply to the union’s letter of concern, blaming the Diwali holidays for the long string of missed payments to contractor RStar, shows just how delusional and unfit to hold the mine lease he is. “Diwali has been celebrated for thousands of years. WWF calls on parliament to pass strong nature laws that close deforestation loopholes

WWF-Australia has called on parliament to strengthen reforms to Australia’s environment laws and close loopholes that allow native forests to be bulldozed and threaten iconic places like the Great Barrier Reef. Environment Minister Murray Watt has today tabled legislation designed to fix the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC). WWF-Australia’s CEO, Dermot O’Gorman, said: “We welcome the introduction of the government’s nature reform package, but as it stands the proposed legislation must be strengthened to ensure it does what it says on the tin: protect nature. “As this legislation moves through parliament, we urge all politicians to tackle the…

Business fined $23,077 for breaching Victorian Energy Upgrades program consumer protections

NRGPAL Pty Ltd has been fined $23,077 for allegedly breaching consumer protections in the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program. Accredited businesses undertake energy efficiency upgrades that entitle them to create Victorian energy efficiency certificates, which they can then sell. NRGPAL is a contractor that does work on behalf of VEU accredited businesses, known as a ‘scheme participant’. This is the first time the Essential Services Commission has issued penalties against a scheme participant. The commission alleges that NRGPAL failed…

Powering the future: Ho Chi Minh City’s roadmap to industrial transition

Decarbonising Vietnam's booming industrial sector is critical to securing future economic success in the race to net zero. A new report from Monash University's Climateworks Centreoutlines a bespokeroadmap to transform Ho Chi Minh City – the nation's economic heartbeat – into a net zero industrial precinct (NZIP). The concept of an NZIP is fairly simple; stakeholders working together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net zero within a specific geographic zone. Rather than a single industry, company or government operating in a silo, everyone works together – building on the efficiencies offered by shared infrastructure, technology and investment –…
