We suspected this would be a tough budget. Cutting the numbers of public servants while trying to increase tax revenue suggests the government is nervous about the state's economic situation. Politically, however, this is a good time to have a tough budget. 

 

“It's the first budget following Labor's strong election result in November, and the strategy would be to get difficult and potentially unpopular changes out of the way to clear the path for more generous, and politically more popular, budgets in future years.”

MAINTENANCE BLITZ FOR 55 MORE SCHOOLS

The Allan Labor Government is making sure Victorian students are learning in modern schools. Deputy Premier andMinister for Education Ben Carroll today announced 55 schools will benefit from maintenance works. The schools will share in $35.077 million from the Planned Maintenance Program (PMP), thanks to investment from the Labor Government. Practical measures include upgrading emergency shelters, replacing windows, painting and resurfacing floors. Vic gov urged to honour Royal Commission promise, restore axed mental health social housing funding

Victoria's peak community housing body has warned the state government's decision to axe promised mental health funding to support social housing renters will heap pressure on overstretched homelessness services, hospitals, and courts.
