SWAROVSKI JOINS CELEBRATIONS FOR 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF DISNEY

Swarovski 3 mins read

Swarovski is proud to celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company by joining forces with Disney 100 Years of Wonder (Disney100), a year-long celebration of the company’s incredible legacy of storytelling.

To honour one hundred years of magical artistry and imagination, Disney has invited a host of the world’s most renowned creative visionaries and next generation talent from the worlds of fashion, film, music, and art to contribute Disney-inspired pieces in support of Make-A-Wish®.

Swarovski’s Global Creative Director, Giovanna Engelbert, will contribute a replica of the bespoke solid crystal slipper created for Disney’s 2015 Cinderella live action movie.

Created by Swarovski’s craftspeople at its headquarters in the Austrian Alps, Cinderella’s iconic slipper is the perfect piece to commemorate Disney’s joyful and light-filled legacy. The slipper features 221 facets and is hewn from solid Aurora Borealis crystal, which possesses unique reflective properties and radiates a magical shimmer. Showcasing Swarovski’s exquisite savoir-faire, it took a team of eight technicians 150 hours to make.

“I am honored to participate in this global celebration of creativity and emerging talent.” commented Giovanna Engelbert.

“What inspired me to recreate Cinderella’s iconic crystal slipper for Disney100 is the name of the charity and the idea of a wish. And of course, the slipper is the most famous shoe in the world. It is transformative and full of magic, so it was the perfect way to unite the world of Swarovski with the world of Disney.”

Giovanna Engelbert joins participants who have contributed artworks, items, and experiences in support of Make-A-Wish®.

Swarovski’s longstanding collaboration with Disney dates back almost twenty years and is founded on shared values such as a focus impeccable quality and design, as well as the ability to evoke joy and wonder.

The crystal house has been bringing to life iconic Disney characters since 2005, when it created six crystal figurines of some of Disney’s most beloved characters - Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck, and Goofy. Since then, Swarovski has crafted crystal figurines of many of the classic Disney characters and Disney Princess characters, each more detailed, colourful, and magical than the last, and each challenging its craftspeople in Austria to introduce a higher level of refinement and savoir-faire in their creation.

As part of the celebrations, Swarovski will launch its Disney100 x Swarovski collection of jewellery and home décor products later this year. Featuring three of Disney’s most iconic characters - Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Minnie Mouse – the joyful pieces are created with a meticulous attention to detail and Swarovski savoir-faire. Honouring a century of magical storytelling, the collection is a shining testament to almost 20 years of creative collaboration between Swarovski and Disney.
