VISION AUSTRALIA SEEING EYE DOGS GRADUATION TO TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT PARLIAMENT HOUSE

Hard work and dedication of Seeing Eye Dogs from across NSW to be recognised

13 Seeing Eye Dogs and their handlers who have completed the Seeing Eye Dogs training program in the last 12 months will be celebrated in a special graduation ceremony hosted by The Hon. Kate Washington, Minister for Disability Inclusion at NSW Parliament House on Wednesday, November 22. NSW Premier Chris Minns will also be in attendance

It takes around two years and $50,000 dollars to develop a Seeing Eye Dog to be ready to be matched with someone who is blind or has low vision. Seeing Eye Dogs and their handlers then undergo a period of intensive training before they officially graduate the program.

"It's a significant achievement for both the Seeing Eye Dog and handler to graduate and becoming a working partnership and all that time and effort is something that deserves to be celebrated," Chris Edwards, Vision Australia director of government relations and advocacy, said.

MEDIA CALL: The Seeing Eye Dog graduation ceremony will take place from 1pm-2.30pm on Wednesday, November 22 at the NSW Parliament House Rooftop Garden. Seeing Eye Dogs puppies, staff and clients will be available to media.

Campaign Director, Laurie Levy today called on Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan to act responsiblyand cancel the 2025 recreational duck shooting season, citing the severe risk of spreading thedeadly H5N1 avian influenza virus. “Australia remains the only continent to have avoided the H5N1 strain of avian influenza to date. However, the virus is reportedly devastating penguins and other species in Antarctica. Withmigratory birds continuing to arrive from both the northern hemisphere and Antarctica, the risk toAustralian wildlife and agricultural industries is unprecedented.
