SUNDAY 23 June, 2024

Max Gawn is in 'boots an all ' supporting Australians affected by breast cancer with his first, specially designed pink boots now up for auction.

The Demon's Captain wore the boots in Melbourne's season saving win against North Melbourne in Breast Cancer Network Australia's (BCNA)  Pink Lady Match at the MCG on Saturday night.

Designed with the Pink Lady Match logo and the names Anita on one foot and Kylie on the other, Gawn signed each dirty boot after the win.

Kylie Bellis, Gawn's aunt is in treatment for breast cancer, Anita Frawley, the widow of Danny Frawley has also undergone treatment for the disease.

Gawn wore his aunt's name on his warm up top, his team mates also carried the names of women and men affected by breast cancer as well as in memory of others who have lost their lives. Match sponsor Zurich donated it's logo space for the initiative that included players receiving a heartfelt letter from each person or family member they represented.

The Melbourne Football club has a 20 year partnership with BCNA, the charity's CEO  Kirsten Pilatti says the Pink Lady Match is so much more than a game. " Playing with purpose has a powerful impact for those on the field and equally if not more for those they represent, the stories of our BCNA community has truly resonated with the players and we are so proud of the way they have taken the time to understand the deeper meaning of the Pink Lady Match.  The auction of the Captain's boots is a true reflection of Max’s personal connection to breast cancer and his show of support for friends, family and all Australians affected."

Where are all the sawfish?

Australia is home to some of the last significant populations ofsawfish on the planet. We need your help to find out how many are left. In December 2023, the world’s five sawfish species were reassessed as ‘critically endangered’ on the IUCN Red List. Four of the five species –Freshwater sawfish, Narrow sawfish, Dwarf sawfish and Green sawfish – are found in north Australian waters, but ‘proof of life’ is limited to isolated pockets in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. During National Sawfish Sighting Week 2024 (26 October – 2 November), citizen scientists are needed to help spot these…
