Calling Toowoomba Region flavour makers: one week to #trEATs deadline!

Attention all flavour makers from Toowoomba and across the greater region, there is just one week left to register for this year’s #trEATS program as part of Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers!

#trEATS (Toowoomba Region EATS) is a food trail that covers the region as part of Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, which this year runs from 13 September to 7 October, with the fitting theme, It’s A Party, to celebrate the iconic event’s 75th anniversary.

The closing dates for #trEATS registrations is Friday 12 July - application form here.

Introduced in 2020, #trEATS features signature springtime dishes from cafes, restaurants and bars inspired by Toowoomba Region’s most famous event, all priced at $10-$20. Last year a record 52 local operators took part, with dishes covering the whole taste spectrum, from sweet to savory to spicy and all in between.

The 2023 #trEATS line up was a culinary knockout, from Cobb’s Coffee Shop’s Iced VoVo dish of coconut panna cotta and home-made berry jelly with fresh cream and shortbread crumble, topped with toasted coconut and finished with macerated berries, to an Edible Garden from Jilly’s Café, Spring Soft Shell Tacos from Mouse Proof Brewing  with raspberry and hibiscus gose and marinated chicken on corn tortillas, to a Butterfly Peaflower Gelato from Gelatissimo Toowoomba, Stellarossa’s Gordonia Flower Carnival Pizza, and The Store Room’s stunning selection of five sweet treat petit fours!

“Flowers and flavour are one of the world’s great double acts and this year Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers will once again celebrate our regional flavour makers with the #trEATs program,” Toowoomba Regional Council Environment and Community Portfolio Councillor Cr James O’Shea said. “We are famed for our incredible produce and flavours, and during the event where Toowoomba Region shines on the national stage, we can give locals and visitors alike a tasty food adventure for Spring.”

“We are calling on all businesses with food or beverage involvement across the region to take part. It’s a wonderful celebration of our local community and flavours and gives our visitors an added, and tasty, extra reason to stay a little longer” he said.

Where are all the sawfish?

Australia is home to some of the last significant populations ofsawfish on the planet. We need your help to find out how many are left. In December 2023, the world’s five sawfish species were reassessed as ‘critically endangered’ on the IUCN Red List. Four of the five species –Freshwater sawfish, Narrow sawfish, Dwarf sawfish and Green sawfish – are found in north Australian waters, but ‘proof of life’ is limited to isolated pockets in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. During National Sawfish Sighting Week 2024 (26 October – 2 November), citizen scientists are needed to help spot these…
