MEDIA ALERT: Western Australians visit Parliament House to advocate for strong nature protections

Conservation Council of Western Australia, BirdLife Australia, Australian Conservation Foundation < 1 mins read

A delegation of seven Western Australians is in Canberra today to meet with federal politicians ahead of potential debate of federal nature law reforms this week.

With the WA Premier announcing plans to weaken the Western Australian EPA last week, strong federal laws are more important than ever.

The delegates come from a range of backgrounds including farming, tourism, wildlife care and local community groups.

“We know the loudest voices coming from Western Australia on this issue are the vested mining sector interests, but they don’t represent our communities,” said Conservation Council West Australia spokesperson Rhiannon Hardwick.

“We are making the huge trip to Canberra to show federal decision makers that voters in WA want a strong federal EPA and other reforms to protect the beautiful natural areas and species we love.”
