Older Australians simply love healthy ready-made meals and are reaping the rewards, according to a landmark survey from Lite n’ Easy.

Lite n’ Easy recently surveyed customers aged 65 and over who receive government funding for subsidised meals through the Commonwealth Home Care Package, as it was known at the time, and now known as Support at Home. The survey explored a range of health and wellbeing considerations relating to nutrition.

If you receive Support at Home funding, your plan may cover up to 70% of the cost of meal preparation and delivery*. You’ll simply pay the remaining 30% upfront to Lite n’ Easy.

Results from the survey include:

  • 89 per cent of customers believe their quality of life has improved since starting Lite n’ Easy.
  • 80 per cent of customers rated their health 7+ (out of 10) since ordering Lite n’ Easy, compared to 51 per cent beforehand.
  • 56 per cent of customers said their appetite has reduced with age.
  • 61 per cent of customers said they have difficulty cooking meals for themselves.
  • 31 per cent of customers said they have difficulty shopping for ingredients to cook with.

Lite n’ Easy CEO Nathan Hayman said the survey results are a powerful reminder of the need to cater for older Australians who want to live independently and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“The results speak for themselves – customers love ready-made meals and the improvements they bring to their health and wellbeing,” Mr Hayman said.

“Many older Australians want to live independently and eat well but find it difficult due to the challenge of cooking and shopping for food.

“We take the hassle out of this by offering convenience and making life easier for customers.

“Thousands of Australians use their Support at Home funding to access a range of Lite n’ Easy meals, which saves them time and money.

“We have an ageing population, and it is important that older people have choice and access to affordable and healthy food.”

*Funding arrangements vary, so interested customers should check with their Support at Home provider to confirm eligibility and any other co-contributions that may apply.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: HELP AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE TO OLDER PEOPLE IN AGED CARE

Thursday, 11 December 2025 Older people are being reminded of the government’s Financial Hardship Assistance program, amid concerns some people are finding the new Aged Care Act changes difficult to navigate and manage. The new Act includes a range of benefits, such as an enforceable Statement of Rights, which strengthens protections for older people. However, implementing this in everyday practice will take time and early feedback indicates that many older people aren’t aware of their rights and lack the information needed to make informed decisions. Examples include pressures of rising participant contributions, reduced purchasing power due to pricing changes, shifts…

SUPPORT AT HOME APPROACH HAVING UNACCEPTABLE IMPACTS ON OLDER PEOPLE: GOVERNMENT MUST ACT NOW

Thursday, 4 December 2025 Older people are waiting up to 17 weeks to receive their full Support at Home program entitlements, despite long wait times for assessment and repeated promises by the Government that processing times and service access would improve. Evidence provided by Department of Health, Disability and Ageing officials at Senate Estimates has revealed a litany of challenges with the sector, including that 93 per cent of Support at Home packages released since the program’s commencement in November have been 'interim packages', offering older people only 60 per cent of the services they have been assessed as needing.…
