Key Facts:

parkrun participants will be eligible for a 'buy one get one free' offer on Saturdays at Zambrero restaurants if they show evidence of their parkrun volunteer or result in-store

parkrun Australia is pleased to announce a one-year partnership with Australian-owned restaurant chain Zambrero, aimed at promoting healthy customised meals and supporting Zambrero’s Plate 4 Plate initiative to stop world hunger.

Zambrero was founded in Canberra in 2005 by Dr Sam Prince, an Australian medical doctor, and is the largest Mexican-style restaurant chain in the country with 280 stores. It was built on the idea that food should make people feel good personally and socially, and for every burrito or bowl sold, a meal is donated to someone in need. More than 100 million meals have been donated over the past 20 years.

As part of the partnership, parkrun participants will be eligible for ‘buy one get one free’ offers on Saturdays, by showing evidence of their parkrun volunteer or result in-store using their email or the 5k app.

Zambrero’s menu is made fresh and people can customise what they eat from protein-rich to plant-based options. They take pride in catering for an array of dietary requirements, with all meals able to be made vegan and vegetarian friendly as well as offering choices that are free of gluten, soy beans, eggs, milk, peanuts and tree nuts.

Zambrero’s support of parkrun will help cover the costs of delivering free, weekly parkrun events, including equipment, technology, and volunteer support, so parkrun can remain free, for everyone, forever.

parkrun Asia Pacific Managing Director Renee Gimbert said the support of partners was vital to the growth and success of parkrun in Australia.

“Zambrero’s values of inclusion, community and everyday wellbeing align closely with ours and we are excited to welcome them to the parkrun family for the next 12 months.

“With 537 parkruns taking place around Australia and many more in the pipeline over the next year, Zambrero’s support will help parkrun extend to more places and connect more communities.

Zambrero CEO Daryl McCormack said he was delighted to be supporting parkrun.

“Zambrero and parkrun are a natural fit. We’re both focused on bringing people together around healthy choices and strong local communities,'' Mr McCormack said.

“Our fresh, customisable menu is designed to fuel active lifestyles, and through our Plate 4 Plate initiative, every eligible purchase also helps provide a meal to someone in need. This partnership means that when parkrunners come together each Saturday, they’re not just supporting their own wellbeing, they’re contributing to something bigger.”

Zambrero’s social mission is to stop world hunger. Through its Plate 4 Plate initiative, for every purchase of a regular/big burrito or bowl, Kids Zam Box or retail item at Zambrero a meal is donated to someone in need around the world. More than 100 million meals have been donated.

Meal packs are a highly nutritious combination of dehydrated rice, soy and vegetables fortified with 23 essential vitamins and minerals, specifically designed to combat malnutrition.

The meals have been made to store easily and transport quickly, as well as being designed to easily adapt to the local culture that the meals are delivered to, allowing communities to add their own spices and additions that suit local culture and tastes.
