With just two days to go until the 2026 Relay for Life, Year 12 students at St Mary
MacKillop College are calling on the Canberra community to help them reach their goal of
raising $80,000.
MacKillop’s Class of 2026 has so far raised over $60,000, but they will need every bit of
help if they are to reach their ambitious target.
Instead of participating in the relay at the AIS, MacKillop’s Year 12 students will take part
in the Relay Your Way version of the event with a 12-hour walk at the College’s St Peter’s
Campus on Saturday 28 March.
It is a cause that is close to the hearts of many members of the MacKillop community,
particularly the new College Principal, Jacqueline Heffernan.
“Having journeyed through cancer myself, I deeply understand its challenges. Relay for
Life is a powerful way to bring hope, honour survivors, and support vital research.
Together, we can make a difference,” Mrs Heffernan said.
“I am incredibly proud of our Year 12 students for their inspiring commitment to the
Cancer Council’s Relay for Life. Their fundraising efforts reflect not only their compassion
but also their determination to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those
impacted by cancer. They are a shining example of what it means to serve others with
hope and solidarity.”
MacKillop has been a proud supporter of the Cancer Council event, with the Class of
2024 raising more than $75,000 and the Class of 2025 managing to raise over $100,000.
