TUESDAY 31 MARCH

10:30 to 11:30am

Committee Room 2R1, Australian Parliament House

MARITIME FUEL SECURITY AND STRATEGIC FLEET PANEL DISCUSSION

<<MUA Briefing Paper available for download here>>

In attendance:

  • Jennifer Parker, Adjunct Fellow in Naval Studies, ANU
  • John Blackburn, Former Deputy Chief of the RAAF and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Energy
  • Martin Byrne, Federal Secretary of the Australian Institute of Marine and Power Engineers
  • Angela Gillham, CEO of the Maritime Industry Australia Limited (MIAL)
  • Paddy Crumlin, President of the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF)

The MUA, AIMPE, AMOU, ITF and MIAL are hosting a timely panel discussion about Australia’s fuel security risks and the important role an Australian merchant maritime sector can play in securing our fuel and oil supplies.

With the war in Iran highlighting Australia’s supply chain vulnerabilities, the Government’s commitment to establish a Strategic Fleet of Australian flagged and crewed vessels, alongside parallel reforms and policies to bolster our maritime capacity, is even more important.

Join our panel members for this important panel discussion with a Q&A to follow.
