Key Facts:
  • Emma Mason is an Australian lawyer and a leading global campaigner for stronger social media laws, motivated by the suicide of her 15-year-old daughter, Matilda “Tilly” Rosewarne, in 2022 after severe online bullying.

  • Tilly endured relentless cyberbullying, including a fake nude image circulated on social media. Emma describes her death as “death by bullying, enabled by social media.”

  • Emma is a lawyer from Bathurst, NSW, with nearly 25 years of experience as an Independent Children’s Lawyer in the family court system.

  • Emma and fellow mother Mia Bannister were key drivers behind Australia’s world-first law banning social media access for children under 16, coming into effect in December 2025 and placing responsibility on tech companies to enforce age limits.

  • Emma has taken her advocacy to the global stage, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025 alongside Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, influencing leaders including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

  • Emma received the Law Society of NSW President’s Medal in December 2025 and has been nominated for a Marie Claire Women of the Year award.

  • She played a central role in News Corp Australia’s “Let Them Be Kids” campaign pushing for the legislative reforms.

  • Emma prefers the term “law” rather than “ban,” arguing that government must act when social harm is recognised, similar to age restrictions on smoking or drinking.

Hello,

I’m Emma Mason, mother to my beautiful daughter Tilly, who took her own life on February 16, 2022, after enduring relentless social media bullying.

She was just 15.

In September, I spoke at the UN in New York, where I called for new laws to ban under-16s from accessing key social media platforms.

Since losing Tilly, I have campaigned relentlessly to raise awareness of the harms caused by social media.

I’m proud that these efforts, alongside those of other bereaved parents, have helped to protect children under 16 and led to world-first social media laws here in Australia on December 10.

Now I need YOUR HELP. Parents and children have been telling me they feel unsure, anxious, and unprepared for what the new law means.

To support families, I’ve created a video which I’m asking you to share with your followers TODAY with the hashtag - #ForTillysSake

The video is free to use and features my message along with the voices of other parents who have lost their children to social media harm.

EPA SECURES $34,000 PENALTY FOR PRIVATE NATIVE FORESTRY OFFENCES

A Mid North Coast logging company has been ordered to pay over $34,000, and its director placed on a 2-year good behaviour bond, in the Taree Local Court for a range of private native forestry offences at a property in Belbora in 2023. The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) launched a prosecution against O’Connor Logging Pty Ltd and its director Stephen Sean O’Connor following a series of inspections which found evidence of forestry operations in the buffer zone around waterways (called the riparian exclusion zone). NSW EPA Director of Operations John Forcier said the unlawful operations had impacted native vegetation…

Government extends Support at Home claiming deadline following CHA advocacy

The Federal Government has extended the claiming deadline for the first quarter of the new Support at Home program, following concerns raised by Catholic aged care providers during the transition. The Department of Health and Aged Care has confirmed our members will now have 90 days instead of 60 days to submit claims for services delivered between 1 November and 31 December 2025, with the deadline extended to 31 March 2026. The transitional measure follows concerns raised by providers about administrative pressures during implementation of the new Aged Care Act and Support at Home reforms. “This is a welcome and…
