Resolution Minerals (ASX: RML) moves to advance past-producing Golden Gate tungsten mine in Idaho

Jane Morgan Management 3 mins read

Resolution Minerals Ltd (ASX: RML; OTCQB: RLMLF) has taken a key step towards advancing and developing the past-producing Golden Gate Tungsten Mine and associated stockpiles at its 100%-owned Horse Heaven Gold-Antimony-Tungsten-Silver Project in Idaho, USA, as it seeks to position itself in the growing market for critical metals.

The Company has appointed experienced US geologist and tungsten specialist Mr David R. Hembree, CPG, to accelerate tungsten exploration and development activities at Horse Heaven, following a positive review of historical data, engagement with prior operators and encouraging insights from recent drilling programs.

Mr Hembree brings 45 years of geological experience in the western United States and was the last Mine Geologist to work at the Golden Gate Tungsten Mine in 1980–81. His appointment is expected to fast-track the assessment of historical tungsten data, guide upcoming fieldwork and drilling, and support metallurgical test work on existing tungsten stockpiles, with a drill program scheduled to commence in June 2026.

The Golden Gate Tungsten Mine produced tungsten intermittently between the early 1950s and 1980, with ore historically processed at the nearby Stibnite Mill and later at the Johnson Creek Mill. Historical records indicate tungsten grades ranging from approximately 1.5% to more than 2.0% WO₃ across multiple mining periods.

In parallel, Resolution is progressing the proposed acquisition of the historic Johnson Creek Tungsten & Antimony Mill, located immediately adjacent to the Horse Heaven Project. The acquisition includes an estimated 2,000 tonnes of tungsten ore stockpiled on site, private land tenure and industrial water rights, with due diligence nearing completion. The Company believes the acquisition could provide strategic flexibility for future processing, downstream integration and potential partnerships in the United States critical minerals supply chain.

Resolution also sees potential to expand tungsten mineralisation beyond the historic Golden Gate workings, with exploration upside along approximately three kilometres of strike associated with the Golden Gate Fault, as well as at other emerging targets across the broader Horse Heaven Project area.

Tungsten prices, typically referenced via ammonium paratungstate (APT), are currently at record highs and are expected to remain strong in 2026 amid rising global demand from defence, clean energy, advanced manufacturing and high-tech applications, alongside supply constraints and export controls.

Craig Lindsay, CEO of U.S. Operations, commented:

“We are fortunate to have connected with Mr. Hembree, who has a strong knowledge of historic tungsten exploration and production at Horse Heaven, and will be invaluable as Resolution begins the process of targeting additional tungsten resources at Horse Heaven. Based on our work to date, we are confident additional ore remains at the historic Golden Gate Tungsten Mine, as was as at other emerging targets at Horse Heaven. Dave, with his understanding of the historic workings and mineralisation, has already provided excellent insight into where we should be focusing future tungsten-oriented drilling activities.”

Dave Hembree commented:

“I am very excited to be back working at the Horse Heaven Project and am eager to put my knowledge on the project’s tungsten potential to work. There is a clear path to resource growth at the historic mine, and I am aware of other targets that have yet to be explored. For instance, to the south of the historic mine there is a significant tungsten anomaly identified through a historic soil sampling program that has never been drilled. The broader project, beyond Golden Gate, is a target-rich environment.”

Near-term work at Horse Heaven will focus on data compilation and assessment, metallurgical testing of historic tungsten stockpiles, ground-based sampling, geophysics and preparation for the June 2026 drill program.
