PJCIS calls for people affected by radicalisation to share their experiences

Parliament of Australia 2 mins read

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS) is inviting people who have been personally affected by radicalisation to share their experiences as part of its inquiry into the nature and drivers of radicalisation in Australia.

The Committee recognises that coming forward can be deeply difficult. People who feel able to share their experiences are encouraged to contact the Committee secretariat to discuss how they can contribute to the inquiry. The Committee can facilitate the giving of evidence in a manner that protects a person’s identity.

Chair of the PJCIS, Senator Raff Ciccone, said:

“The Committee wants to hear directly from people who have been personally affected by radicalisation or associated harmful online influences, including grooming, extremist or misogynistic online communities, and other pathways towards violent extremism.

“Their experiences can provide an important perspective to help us better understand how radicalisation occurs and its impacts.

“We recognise that coming forward may not be easy. I want people considering sharing their experiences to know that the Committee can work with them to facilitate their evidence in a way that protects their identity.

“If you feel able to participate, I encourage you to contact the secretariat.”

Further information about the inquiry and how to make a submission is available on the Committee’s website: aph.gov.au/pjcis.
