KEY POLICY LEADER CHANGES AT CA ANZ

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Franks CA as the Australian Leader for Tax and Financial Services, effective from July 1, 2024. Susan will succeed Michael Croker, who is retiring after more than 40 years in the profession.

Susan Franks is an experienced tax practitioner and policy adviser. She has held senior tax positions in accounting firms and a public company. Susan also has extensive experience in the public sector, having worked at Commonwealth Treasury in the Revenue division. She holds a Bachelor of Economics, a Master of Laws, and a Masters of Management.

This extensive 30-year background in tax and policy, along with her deep knowledge and broad experience working with CA ANZ members, uniquely positions her to navigate the complexities of the current tax regulatory landscape.

“Susan is highly regarded by our members, the broader tax community, and government. During her tenure at CA ANZ over the past decade, she has tirelessly championed the interests of both members and the public,” said Simon Grant, Group Executive Advocacy and International Development.

“Her close connections with our members and the wider tax community make her appointment as CA ANZ’s Australian Leader – Tax and Financial Services a warmly received decision. This appointment marks an exciting development for CA ANZ, and Susan’s experience will undoubtably contribute to the organisation’s continue success.”

Chartered Accountants are facing unprecedented challenges from rapidly evolving technology and regulatory reform in addition to the usual ever-changing tax laws. Advocating for a strong, ethical, sustainable accounting profession will be a priority to ensure that our members can continue to provide valuable services to business and individuals,” said Susan Franks.

Michael Davison joins the CA ANZ advocacy ranks

CA ANZ is also delighted to announce that Michael Davison has joined our team as Financial Advice Leader.

Michael has worked extensively in the superannuation and financial services industry, and previously spent 20 years at CPA Australia, working in a range of advocacy roles.

“Over many years, CA ANZ enjoyed a great collaborative working relationship with Michael while he was at CPA Australia. Michael’s wealth of experience across a number of policy areas will be invaluable for our advocacy efforts, particularly in superannuation and financial services. He’s a great addition to our advocacy team,” said Simon Grant.

“Having spent many years collaborating with the CA ANZ team it is a pleasure to now join them as they lead the accounting profession’s advocacy for better financial advice and retirement outcomes for all Australians,” said Michael Davison.

“The need for financial advice is increasingly important to Australians, however, access to quality, well qualified and knowledgeable advisers is very difficult, if not impossible, for the average person.

“The recent Quality of Advice Review recommended sensible reforms that could make financial advice more accessible and affordable. Our members in public practice are well placed to be involved in alleviating the community’s very large unmet advice needs, and we will continue to advocate on this important issue,” said Mr Davison.

CA ANZ actively engages with governments, regulators and standard-setters on behalf of members, the profession and the wider business community to advocate in the public good. Good public policy plays an important role facilitating national prosperity. You can find more information about CA ANZ’s advocacy and our latest submissions on our website
