Join our swim event for trans and gender diverse people at Cook + Phillip Park Pool

City of Sydney 2 mins read

A free, family-friendly event for Sydney’s trans and gender diverse communities takes over Cook + Phillip Park Pool on Sunday 17 November.

Tickets give visitors and their families and friends free, exclusive access to the pools, alongside a live DJ, entertainment and fun activities in and out of the water.

“This Transgender Awareness Week we’re inviting trans and gender diverse people and their families, friends and loved ones to join us poolside for a safe celebration of inclusivity,” Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore AO said.

“At times, the trans and gender diverse community may not feel comfortable or able to use our wonderful public facilities, based on previous experience or existing barriers.

“We're entirely committed to ensuring our city spaces are welcoming and inclusive, so these events create a safe space and show Sydney is a place that embraces and celebrates everyone.”

Visitors at the free but ticketed event will have exclusive access to:

- the 50m pool

- the indoor wave pool and leisure pool areas filled with inflatable beach toys

- kids and adults aqua and Zumba classes

- games and giveaways for kids

- novelty and giant garden games

- gender neutral amenities

- a chillout space.

Photo opportunities with mermaids, performances by local drag queen Joyce Maynge and live DJ sets will also take place on the day.

Free cakes and light refreshments will be available.

A fundraising barbecue run by Wett Ones LGBTIQA+ swimming club is also planned.

Other community groups supporting people of diverse sexualities and genders, and government health agencies will be on hand to chat and provide visitors with information.
