MEDIA RELEASE: Stop the Bill Shock Coalition

Queensland’s “energy roadmap” keeps bills high and households in debt

Community and social justice organisations say the Queensland Government’s newEnergy Roadmap is a betrayal of families and low-income households already struggling under energy debt. The plan keeps state-owned coal plants running into the 2040s and doubles gas generation, measures experts say will raise costs for consumers while funnelling billions of taxpayer dollars into outdated industries. Analysis by Jacobs, commissioned by the Clean Energy Council, shows Queenslanders could face bill increases of up to 47.8% by 2030 under a slowed renewables rollout. Meanwhile, Queensland Conservation Council estimates the Callide B coal plant alone could drain $420 million per year from public…

Crisafulli Government’s reckless roadmap signs Queenslanders up for a more expensive, unreliable, polluting future

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEFRIDAY 10 OCTOBER, 2025The Crisafulli Government’s Energy Roadmap is set to sign Queenslanders up for outdated, unreliable, and expensive coal power until the 2040’s – a move that threatens to drive up household bills, worsen climate pollution and put thousands of clean energy jobs at risk. The plan sits in stark contrast to projections from the Australian Energy Market Operator, which show all of Queensland’s coal power stations closing by 2035. Extending the life of Queensland’s ageing coal-fired power stations and considering new gas developments flies in the face of Queensland’s legislated 2035 emissions target of a 75%…

Further 7-day lockout at Ulan – time for a resolution

Glencore has this morning notified workers at Ulan Underground coal mine near Mudgee of a second seven-day lockout beginning immediately. Mining and Energy Union members at Ulan were preparing to return to work this morning after seven days of being locked out by their employer when they were notified within an hour of start time that the lockout had been extended and no work would be accepted. The Mining and Energy Union says this is a clear sign that enterprise bargaining has become intractable, and Glencore must now support intervention from the workplace umpire for a resolution. Workers at Ulan…

Reacting to the announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza, Oxfam International’s Executive Director Amitabh Behar, said: “The announcement of the first stage of a ceasefire deal in Gaza by all parties is a desperately needed step towards ending Israel’s genocide in Gaza. We welcome the release of Israeli hostages and unlawfully detained Palestinians. “This fragile ceasefire must be the beginning of a sustained and principled effort that leads to ending Israel’s unlawful occupation and blockade. It must be focused on restoring rights and rebuilding lives. Any political or reconstruction plan must not entrench the occupation or further undermine Palestinian sovereignty.…
