National Initiative Aims to Improve Outcomes for Heart Failure Patients Affected by Frailty
Approximately 50% of adults living with Heart Failure are classified as frail, resulting in poorer health outcomes, higher hospitalisations, and increased mortality rates. Despite clear guidelines recommending frailty assessment for this patient population, the implementation of these assessments in clinical practice has been slow and inconsistent. However, frailty can be reduced and, in some cases, reversed by addressing four critical areas: exercise, nutrition, social support and optimised medication use. A new publication by the Australian Cardiovascular Alliance (ACvA) Frailty & Heart Failure National Taskforce in Heart Lung and Circulation is advocating for improved frailty assessment and multidisciplinary care models. “Heart…

Investing in nurses to lead community education and care for people experiencing menopause and perimenopause
In its 2025-26Pre-Budget Submission, the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) is calling on the Federal Government to fund measures to support nurses experiencing perimenopause and menopause. TOMAGO CONCRETE RECYCLERS FINED $30,000 FOR EXCEEDING WASTE LIMITS
The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has fined Recycled Concrete Products Pty Ltd (RCP) $30,000 after it was found to have significantly exceeded its licensed waste limits. The facility, which recycles used concrete, bricks, and pavers into products such as road base, is located in Tomago near Newcastle and is licensed to process 30,000 tonnes of concrete waste per year. A review of the EPA’s waste and resource reporting data found that by August 2024—just 5 months into its reporting period—the company had already exceeded its annual limit by more than 4,000 tonnes. Big barrel at federal Parliament highlights big nuclear cost
As Australians look to Canberra ahead of Tuesday evenings federal Budget, the high cost of nuclear power will be illustrated by an eight metre high inflatable radioactive waste barrel on the grass in front of Parliament House. For multiple years CSIRO modelling has shown nuclear to be the most expensive and slowest electricity option in Australia. “The Coalition's nuclear push risks Australia’s economy, energy system and environment,” said Friends of the Earth national nuclear campaigner Dr Jim Green. “It is a threat to public health and a waste of public funds”. The barrel display is an initiative of nuclear free…
